El fotomontaje como estrategia creativa y discursiva en la fotografía mexicana, 1927-1946
Abstract
El fotomontaje llega a México desde la época de Maximiliano con un uso esporádico entre composiciones para la élite dominante, reportajes de guerra y fotografías de estudio,1 pero encontramos un auge en su uso durante la primera mitad del siglo XX, coincidiendo con una época próspera para las artes y la cultura en México combinada con un periodo de grandes cambios y conflictos políticos a nivel nacional e internacional. Por esta razón, este estudio se delimita en esta primera mitad de siglo, específicamente entre 1927 y 1946. Estas dos fechas, aparentemente aleatorias, están directamente relacionadas con el fotomontaje como creación visual. Uno de los primeros fotomontajes en crear un mensaje visual abstracto, más allá de las inserciones paisajísticas o contextuales fue Elegancia y Pobreza de Tina Modotti, fechado alrededor de 1927. La fecha de cierre, por otra parte, coincide con el fin de la revista Futuro, importante publicación que utilizó frecuentemente fotomontajes en sus páginas, al nivel de la fotografía o el grabado.
