Patrimonio documental de América Latina y el Caribe : el registro regional del programa memoria del mundo de la Unesco 2000-2018

Abstract

La compilación, revisión y producción de este libro dedicado al Registro del patrimonio documental inscrito por América Latina y el Caribe en el programa Memoria del Mundo de la Unesco (MoWLAC) ha sido posible, en primer término, por el apoyo de Guilherme Canela Godoy, Consejero de Comunicación e Información para el Mercosur (Unesco, Montevideo) y secretario del MoWLAC entre 2011 y 2019. Lo ha acompañado un equipo de voluntarios que ha variado en el tiempo, empezando con el comité editorial inicial, designado en Quito, en 2015, integrado en su primera etapa por Sergio López Ruela, Joan Osborne, Carlos Augusto Ditadi y Lourdes Blanco. Ese núcleo recibió el apoyo de Elizabeth Watson, fallecida inesperadamente y a quien recordamos con admiración. Han contribuido en la compilación y rectificación del Registro, Vitor Manoel Marques da Fonseca, Yolia Tortolero, Margarita Vannini y la actual presidenta del comité, Sandra Moresco. Se advierte que desde el inicio del proyecto y debido a la extensión del Registro resultaba imposible producir un libro en los tres idiomas que predominan en la región, el inglés, el español y el portugués. Por ello se tomó la decisión de presentar los resúmenes en el idioma del país custodio del patrimonio y en el caso de Brasil, en castellano. Los textos introductorios aparecen en inglés y en español. La diseñadora, Carolina Arnal, de ABV Taller de Diseño, en Caracas, ha configurado un libro que sigue la pauta del volumen dedicado al Registro Internacional MoW. Ofrece una materia compleja de manera cronológica, cristalina y armoniosa. Santiago Mendoza ha sido el corrector independiente. Esta primera edición ha sido posible gracias a la generosidad del Centro Nacional de Memoria Histórica de Colombia y del Archivo Nacional de los Emiratos Árabes Unidos.

The compilation, editing and production of this book dedicated to the Latin America and the Caribbean documentary heritage inscribed in the MoWLAC Register was made possible by many persons, first of all, Guilherme Canela Godoy, MoWLAC Secretary between 2011 and 2019, and Adviser in Communication and Information for Mercosur (Unesco, Montevideo). He relied on a team of volunteers that has varied through the years, beginning with the original editorial committee, designated in 2015 at the Quito meeting, consisting of Sergio López Ruela, Joan Osborne, Carlos Augusto Ditadi and Lourdes Blanco. Considerable support was provided by Elizabeth Watson, who is remembered with affection and admiration. Those who have contributed to the compilation and editing include Vitor Manoel Marques da Fonseca, Yolia Tortolero, Margarita Vannini and the present Chair of Mowlac, Sandra Moresco. It should be understood that from the beginning of this book project and because of its numerous Inscriptions it was going to be impossible to have the book in the three languages which are predominant in the region: English, Spanish and Portuguese. A decision was then made to include the summaries in the language of the country represented, with the exception of Brasil, whose descriptions appear in Spanish. Introductory texts are in English and Spanish. The graphic designer, Carolina Arnal, of ABV Taller de Diseño in Caracas, has conceived a volume that follows the example set by the Memory of the World Unesco book for the International Register. A rather complex compilation is laid out in chronological order, with clarity and harmony. Santiago Mendoza has been the independent proofreader. This first edition has been possible thanks to the generosity of the National Center of Historical Memory of Colombia and of the National Archives of the United Arab Emirates.
